Shang Yixin and Li Kezheng are both artists born in the 80’s. This generation has experienced China’s rapid economic growth, information overload and urbanization. Most artists of this generation execute works related to materialism and city life. Some of them represent their memory and childhood in their works. Compared with the artists of the 60’s and 70’s, they tend to focus more on personal experience. Li Kezheng and Shang Yixin’s paintings are completely disengaged from reality. Their works have been created totally based on their own aesthetic perspective and their exploration of spiritual world, life experience is indispensable to their paintings. They integrate their true feelings into their works, seeking the unlimited continuation of spirit.

Shang Yixin has switched from iconic painting to abstract painting and his focus has changed from outside world to his own spiritual world. Light and shadow coexist and pose a philosophical question regarding existence and non-existence.His idea about light and shadow has been inspired by lightning, an attractive natural phenomenon. His Light series has been based on his personal experience and reflects his exploration of his spiritual world. His recent works take advantage of special textures and visual effects to create three-dimensional space, taking the audience into an ideal world.

Li Kezheng’s painting originates from a color course in school. He has been focusing on the research of diversification and variation of colors. He subtly immerses different colors into a single background and the same color into different backgrounds. He dexterously takes advantage of color changes to create visual impact and bring the audience a great sense of inner peace. Li Kezheng never depicts or criticizes reality. He always seeks reflection and spiritual continuation and his paintings have transcended forms. By interacting with his own works, he has gained unlimited inner peace as well.

Shang Yixin and Li Kezheng’s paintings reflect their attitude towards reality and the environment. They integrate their experience into their works and constantly seek the infinity of space and time by interacting with paintings.

In their world of painting, there is neither boundary of time nor dimension of space. Theirs is a spiritual world unbound by time or space. Infinite peace and unlimited void coexist in their world to tempt people to explore the unknown.
