... in the Galleries
ShanghART Beijing celebrates its opening with Geng Jianyi's 'Excessive Transition' solo-exhibition. The show consists of an entirely new series of expanded photo works that Geng Jianyi created in 2008. In these, mostly, black-and-white pictures the artist portraits objects belonging to his everyday reality, fellow artists, and rare glimpses of past scenarios. The various objects and settings have been slightly manipulated to create a feeling of uncertainty and distorted reality.
ShanghART H-Space currently hosts Zhou Zixi's new compelling series of paintings China 1946-1949 (2007/2008) that evoke complex metaphors of history and nostalgia. In these, Zhou Zixi exploits the power of history to create images that reflect the artist' s memory of past depictions of China' s civil war between the nationalists and the victorious communists (1946-1949).
ShanghART Gallery displays a group exhibition of painting, photography, drawing, video, and publications by Shen Fan, Zhou Tiehai, Xue Song, Song Tao, Liu Weijian, Yu Youhan, Sun Xun, Ji Wenyu, Geng Jianyi, Hu Jieming and Birdhead.
ShanghART F-Space, dedicated to young artists, showcases installation pieces by Zhang Ding, silk-screen prints by Tang Maohong, and photographs by Shi Qing.
