While Man and Nature have co-existed for centuries in harmony and balance, in recent
times, man has upset that balance by over-exploiting natural resources and destroying the environment for economic and survival motivations. Four artists: Misho, Pichai Pongsasaovapark, James Su and Srijay Kuntawang address this global disaster in the making with their observations on the role of forests and trees in our environment.
They seek to to re-establish both a balance with Nature and the protection of our future through their art. This special collaboration underscores the need for human beings to work together to emphasize that harmony.
The four artists with very different backgrounds and using very different medias are collaborating to illustrate that problems can be resolved by working “together”. By sharing a common goal and leaving their egos behind, the four artists discover that some extraordinary things can be accompished.
The ancient Chinese believed in the “Harmony of Man and Nature“, that all living things are connected in nature. Humans are but a link in this chain. Man must live with Nature in order to survive. Today, modern life acts as a cage. Humans shortsightedly scurry about, chasing wealth and fame, only thinking of their own survival. Landscape paintings open a win-dow in this cage, allowing people to escape their daily worries and once again connect with nature. As an ancient saying goes, “Wisdom loves water, benevolence loves mountains”. Our landscape allows people to experience the formless eternity of time and space.
In the Western tradition, artists emphasize visual impact, composition, color, and light. Chinese artists emphasize the subtleties of space, spirit, and rhythm. This collaboration draws on the Western tradition of modern art, from minimalists to abstract expressionists with complementary Chinese elements of brushstrokes and drawings to bring tension and motion to the compositions. Using these traditions, we are able to express the illusions of depth and form, color and light. Through this process, our paintings bring these two traditions together to create our own style of landscape.
