Speakers:Norman Ford, Map Office (Laurent Gutierrez and Valerie Portefaix), Hiram To
This symposium features Hiram To and Map Office (Laurent Gutierrez and Valerie Portefaix), two of the artists shown in Star Fairy: Hong Kong in Venice at last year’s Venice Biennale along with the curator, Norman Ford. The artists will discuss their work through detailed presentations and open debates, exploring the process and adding to the critiques and issues considered in the original work in Venice.
The panel will reference this work in relation to the currently running exhibition at Osage Kwun Tong, Tales From Venice, an exhibition inspired by their Venice projects. The curator will add to the discussion, opening up the curatorial premise more generally, and in relation to Hong Kong’s now burgeoning art scene.
This will be an excellent opportunity to discuss issues surrounding the Venice Biennale, Hong Kong’s art production, desires for global recognition, local professionalism and overall strategies of representation employed by artists/curators based in Hong Kong. All are welcome and admission is free of charge.
