“Desire Scenery”
The Shanghai Art Museum Welcomes Qin Feng Solo Exhibition

(Shanghai, November 21, 2012) The Shanghai Art Museum will receive internationally-renowned contemporary artist Qin Feng for an exclusive solo exhibition entitled “Desire Scenery,” which will be open from December 8 to December 17, 2012. The artist’s “Desire Scenery” and “Civilization Landscape” will be unveiled at 3:00pm for guests to experience firsthand  Qin’s artistic language bridging Western and Eastern civilization.
Artistic Approach

For many years, Qin Feng has been focusing on research and creation based on the concept of “postmodern ink and wash”. The “Desire Scenery” series is created using ink and paint on cotton paper, through which he exploits the humanistic relationship between ink and water allowing the paper to “feel” the ink.
The works reflect humanistic and philosophical thinking on eastern and western traditions, current and future, and also highlight a sense of times: the integration of media (traditional media and comprehensive media), time (ancient, contemporary and future), dimension (graphic and four-dimension) and culture (eastern and western).
“My brush is used to reproduce my heartfelt perception to life,” explains Qin Feng. His works are all based on his life experiences and understanding of human nature. Traditional Chinese calligraphy and paintings depict human nature and life experiences, and the symbolic meaning represents an exploration into human being’s universal value. The symbolism is meant to leave the audience with a desire for further exploration and interpretation.

       About Qin Feng

Born in Xinjiang China, Qin Feng graduated from the prestigious Shandong Art Institute in 1985. He later   became a professor  at the Berlin University of Art and simultaneously served as the Curator for the Sino-German Cultural Exchange at the request of the City of Berlin. In 2006 Qin returned to China and founded the Museum of Contemporary Art in Beijing and accepted a position as research advisor for post graduates at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Beijing.
As a result of his combined experiences in the arts and notable work in international educational systems, Qing Feng was nominated and selected  as the only research associate for contemporary Art in the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University in 2008. In his 30-year career his contemporary artworks are among the most collected of any researcher at Harvard by Western museums and can be found at such notable places as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Pacific Asia Museum in California, the Ford Foundation, the White House and the Yale University Art Museum.

       Museum Collection

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has exhibited his works side by side with ancient Chinese masters’ creations. Mr. Li Daoliu curated the solo exhibition, and it was academically moderated by the curator of La Biennale di Venezia, Mr. Peng Feng. The legendary Mr. Li believes that Qin Feng’s works encompass a master’s energy and atmosphere. Throughout the installations exhibited in “Civilization Scenery” in 2006, the comprehensive-media paintings of the “Desire” series in 2008 and the introduction of traditional form and context into the “Desire Scenery”, it’s possible to see Qin’s energy through his use of symbolic meanings and powerful visual effects.

Qing Feng is a distinguished guest of the Shanghai Art Museum not only because of his wide range of knowledge and work in the arts industry as a whole, but also as a truly remarkable artist. An incredible amount of exhibition entries, including involvement in most of the Asian art-related exhibitions in foreign museums, showcase his exceptional ability to create unique paintings, installations and sculptures. After the solo exhibition in China ends on Dec 17th 2012, it will be converted into a international travelling exhibition starting in the Texas Art Museum in USA then moving onto Venice, the National Museum of China (Beijing), London,
       Berlin and Hong Kong.
