In the experience of visiting exhibitions, what catches our eyes is a whole set of finished works, and even if some of the works claim to be "works-in-progress" which will still be considered as finished works in visitors' eyes. These completed works are not fulfilled out of temporary visual pleasure but reflect artist's understanding of the world in which they live in as a unique existence.

Meng Xiaoyang's works reveal his understanding of the world and the existence of himself. After the artist lost his hearing in an accident at the age of eight, the world that his eyes could reach was no different from that seen by ordinary people but all sounds needed to be pieced together by memory till the the cochlear implantation. In his early works, there is often a mixed feeling as when you see pictures that carry certain memories fade. Through the repeated ponder of the brush, these complex feelings are unveiled in a quite implicit way by adopting large blue and green tones that often appear in the works, but the harmonious atmosphere of the picture always allows people to peek into the surging undercurrent under the easy surface. In the recent works, the tone of the picture becomes even more complicated in that the original blue-green background seems to be in a far more distant memory, and the clear is clearer while the dark is darker.

'In me, past, present, future meet' are taken from the British poet Sassoon's poem. In Meng Xiaoyang's works, art is not only related to aestheticism, nor is it the pursuit of going after benefits and avoiding disadvantages in the real world, but beyond the barriers intertwined between the past and the present, to find a way out of normal cognition.

Art can start again from where the experience accumulated in the past, the present and the future has stopped.
